Project Overview:

The Carmichael Rail Network (CRN) consists of a new 200km narrow gauge railway line connecting Queensland’s Galilee Basin coal mines to the North Queensland Export Terminal, Australia’s most northerly coal port. Funded by Bravus Mining as part of the Carmichael Project, the CRN provides a vital infrastructure link enabling efficient transportation of coal from the region’s mines to global markets via export facilities along the northern Queensland coast.

This mega project involved constructing the 200 kilometre rail corridor, with scope encompassing 22 new bridge crossings spanning over 40 kilometres worth of installed culverts traversing the route.

Our Role

Supply and installation of materials, plant, and temporary works necessary to complete the Form, Reo & Pour of three multi-span rail waterway bridges and three multi cell insitu box culvert crossings. These works were completed in remote conditions during the Queensland wet season with Covid-19 restrictions impacting border crossings.

Project details:

Client:Bravus Mining (Formerly Adani)

Timeline:November 2020 – August 2021
Project value:$5.2 million

Testimonial:

“At Martinus, we truly value partnerships and those companies who support us. We have had the privilege of working with Wexcon on some of our major projects over the past 3 years, mainly being the Carmichael Rail Network (CRN) in central Qld and Moorebank Intermodal Termina (MIT)l in Sydney.

Collaboration is key to any successful partnership, and the Wexcon team have proven that they are a subcontractor of choice in that space. The CRN project in particular was successfully delivered throughout the COVID pandemic with constant border closures and ever-changing restrictions, where getting teams to site for extended periods has been incredibly difficult. However, Wexcon made those challenges a lot easier with the way they supported every request they could, gone above and beyond and delivered works to an exceptional standard. They have continued to provide top quality FRP works in the Moorebank project where their scope continues to grow as a result.

We are delighted to work with Wexcon and look forward to the delivery of many more projects together.”
