Project Overview:

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project, delivering a 31-station, 66 km metro rail system to revolutionise the city’s travel. Stage 2 created 30km of new metro rail from Chatswood to Bankstown, including twin tunnels under Sydney Harbour and upgrading 11 stations to metro standards.

Together with signalling upgrades, Sydney Metro increased train capacity entering the CBD from 120 to 200 services per hour by 2024. The project that delivered the capacity boost the existing system needs as Sydney continues to grow.

Our Role

Wexcon constructed the Canterbury Traction Substation, encompassing:

  • Formwork and scaffolding, design, supply and installation
  • Fixing and tack welding of all steel reinforcement
  • Concrete placement and finishing

The project was completed safely despite close proximity to live rail, following stringent RISI/RIW requirements. Our expertise realising infrastructure under constrained conditions showcased capabilities serving vital transport upgrade needs.

Wexcon were engaged by Diona in March 2022 to deliver the FRP works scope on Two Sewer Pipe Bridges as part of the Belconnen Trunk Sewer Project. After displaying their professionalism and high quality of workmanship on the initial scope Diona awarded Wexcon additional work scope to the value of $420k. Wexcon completed their project scope in a well-planned, safe and collaborative manner. Wexcon also supported the project by providing plant items on a hire basis. I would highly recommend Wexcon to any Contractor looking for a reliable FRP delivery partner.

Wexcon were engaged by the Heathcote Road Bridge & Linden Street Upgrade Alliance to deliver the streetscape concreting works. The works were widely varying from pit builds, kerbings with lintels, driveways, pram ramps, islands and footpaths, dynamic and complex in access and staged for traffic management due to live road working requirements, with the vast majority of works also being conducted at night. Wexcon arrived to site with a positive and cooperative attitude every shift, went above and beyond for specific night shift PPE requirements and delivered a high class finish of work on every item executed. All client representatives were pleased with Wexcon’s performance and demeanour, with special praise for their night shift site foreman being emphasised. From an engineering perspective, their management team is also quick to assist to resolve any issues and are very accessible and professional. They have been a highly rated subcontractor for the project.

Wexcon has been assisting in the delivery of the Gympie Drainage project for the past 12 months. This assistance was greatly appreciated due to the prompt resourcing requirements and the commitment to safety. These all assisted in the successful delivery of project objectives.

At Martinus, we truly value partnerships and those companies who support us. We have had the privilege of working with Wexcon on some of our major projects over the past 3 years, mainly being the Carmichael Rail Network (CRN) in central Qld and Moorebank Intermodal Termina (MIT)l in Sydney.

Collaboration is key to any successful partnership, and the Wexcon team have proven that they are a subcontractor of choice in that space. The CRN project in particular was successfully delivered throughout the COVID pandemic with constant border closures and ever-changing restrictions, where getting teams to site for extended periods has been incredibly difficult. However, Wexcon made those challenges a lot easier with the way they supported every request they could, gone above and beyond and delivered works to an exceptional standard. They have continued to provide top quality FRP works in the Moorebank project where their scope continues to grow as a result.

We are delighted to work with Wexcon and look forward to the delivery of many more projects together.

Wexcon were awarded a multi-million dollar contract to deliver various FRP scopes involving bridges, underpass structures, and park land staircases. They demonstrated their capabilities in planning and constructing complex structures within limited time frames, while ensuring quality requirements. Wexcon displayed professionalism and a deep knowledge of TfNSW B80 bridge standards. They cooperated with John Holland CPB Joint Venture’s safety procedures, including submitting temporary work designs, required plant operation documents, and daily base PPE requirements for all Wexcon personnel. My experience of working with Wexcon was positive and I look forward to future projects.
